Shekhar Suman (born 7 December 1962)[1] is an Indian film actor, anchor, producer, director, and singer .[2][3]

Shekhar Suman says he is devastated after a leading Hindi news channel falsely reported that his son Adhyayan Suman has died by suicide. The actor revealed that they all ‘died a thousand deaths. Shekhar Suman married Alka Suman on 4 May 1983, and has a son Adhyayan Suman a Bollywood film actor.[4][5][6][7] An older son, Aayush, died of a heart ailment at age 11.[8]

Career[edit]

Shekhar Suman is an Indian film actor who debuted as a hero with an unprecedented break in films with the Magnum opus 'UTSAV' opposite Rekha,produced by Shashi Kapoor and directed by Girish Karnad.He has worked in nearly 35 films which include Manav hatya opposite Madhuri Dixit,Naache Mayuri,Sansar,Anubhav Tridev,Pati Parmeshwar,Ranbhoomi,Chor Machaye Shor,Ek se badhkar Ek,Bhoomi etc.On television, he debuted in a popular serial 'Wah Janaab' with Kiran Juneja. It was based on Lucknow culture. Shekhar's TV career included popular shows like Dekh Bhai Dekh, Reporter, Kabhi Idhar Kabhi Udhar, Chote Babu, Andaz, Amar Prem 'Aaha', Vilayati Babu, Movers n Shakers, Simply Shekhar and Carry On Shekhar. The last three were primarily modelled on and adapted from The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, but he is still a sweetheart for 90s kids for his impersonations, sense of humor, and overall fun on movers & shakers.[citation needed] He hosted Film DeewaneThe Great Indian Comedy Show on Star One until February 2006 and appeared in some episodes of Dial One Aur Jeeto on Sahara TV. He also did quiz shows including Nilaam Ghar on Zee TV and He-Man on Star One. He also hosted the Poll Khol show on STAR News for five years, which was a satire on Indian politics. In 2015, he has hosted similar type of show named Abki Bari Shekhar Bihari on Aaj Tak.

He was one of the judges of The Great Indian Laughter Challenge along with Navjot Singh Sidhu. This programme, a stand-up comedy contest, was the first of its kind on Indian television. After three seasons, he quit the show after differences with Sidhu. He has also featured as a judge of several other comedy shows such as Comedy Circus on Sony TV and Comedy Superstar on SAB TV. He also hosted the show Jab Khelo SAB Khelo on SAB TV. He also participated in the fourth season of popular dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa which aired on Sony TV.

He made his singing debut with a music album named Kuch Khwaab Aise, a collection of eight love ballads whose music was composed by Aadesh Shrivastava and lyrics written by Shyam Raj. In December 2009, he appeared as a participant on a reality TV series, Raaz Pichhle Janam Ka based on past life regression.[9][10][11] Suman made his directorial debut with 2014 film Heartless.[12]

Shekhar Suman fought Loksabha Election in May 2009 from Patna Sahib on Congress ticket and lost to BJP'sShatrughan Sinha, coming up in third place.[13][14]
